How to upload code to an Arduino Leonardo clone.

Several of our projects are based on the Arduino Leonardo hardware including the Wearable Wayfinder, the Heart Matrix LEO, and the LEO Gamer. This tutorial demonstrates how to upload code to one of these Arduino "clones". Since all our devices are bootloaded with the Arduino Leonardo bootloader the process is pretty much identical to loading code onto an Arduino Leonardo. We'll walk you through it in the instructions section plus we have a sample video!

Upload Code to an Arduino Clone Video

Uploading Code onto a Heart Matrix LEO. The process is the same for our Wearable Wayfinder, and the LEO Gamer, as well as any Arduino Leonardo clone you invent!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 0 Plug the Clone into a computer via the USB Port

When the LEO Gamer is plugged into a USB port it registers as a Arduino Leonardo network interface device. This way you can program the Gamer using the Arduino IDE and associated libraries.

Step 1 Select Arduino Leonardo as the Board

Inside the Arduino IDE you will need to select the Arduino Leonardo as the board you are using. Go to Tools > Boards > Arduino Leonardo. Make sure a check mark appears next to the Arduino Leonardo.

Step 2 Select the Correct Serial Port

Make sure you have the serial port where the Leonardo clone is plugged in selected under the Tools > Serial Port menu. On the mac the clone shows up as a USB Modem serial port with a name that changes depending on which physical port is used.

Step 3 Press The Upload Button!

Press the upload button (Triangle-shaped Play button style)! Or Ctrl-U, or select File -> Upload.
